As New Englanders, we know that keeping our homes warm in the winter – and cool in the summer – can be a challenge. Drafty windows, old heating systems or poor insulation often mean higher energy bills. But thanks to the Mass Save HEAT Loan Program, available through participating lenders such as UMassFive, there’s never been a better time to make energy-efficient improvements to your home.

The best part? This program offers interest-free financing, making it easier than ever to invest in upgrades that pay off in both comfort and savings.

What is the HEAT Loan Program?

The HEAT Loan Program is a special initiative sponsored by Mass Save that provides homeowners with the opportunity to borrow at 0% interest for qualified energy-efficient improvements.

With loan amounts available for up to $25,000 and repayment terms of up to seven years, homeowners can take on meaningful projects without worrying about high financing costs.

Eligible Improvements That Make a Difference

Wondering what types of projects you can tackle with a HEAT Loan? The program covers a wide range of upgrades, including:

  • Attic, wall and basement insulation

  • High-efficiency heating systems

  • High-efficiency domestic hot water systems

  • Solar hot water systems

  • ENERGY STAR windows

  • ENERGY STAR thermostats

Each of these improvements helps lower energy consumption, reduce utility bills, and increase your home’s overall comfort and value. Whether you’re finally ready to replace drafty windows or upgrade to a more efficient boiler, the HEAT Loan can help make it affordable.

Why Take Advantage Now?

Energy costs continue to rise, and many homeowners are looking for ways to take control of their monthly expenses. By financing upgrades at 0% interest, you’re able to start saving on utility bills immediately, without the burden of additional loan costs.

Plus, making energy-efficient improvements is good for more than your wallet – it’s also good for the planet. Every upgrade helps reduce your home’s carbon footprint, contributing to a more sustainable future for our community.

Applying is straightforward. First, you’ll need to schedule a no-cost Home Energy Assessment through the Mass Save program. During the assessment, an energy specialist will identify opportunities for efficiency upgrades in your home. Once your project is approved, you can apply for the HEAT Loan directly through a participating lender, such as UMassFive.

To qualify, you must own and reside in a one-to-four family residence (although there are options for non-owner-occupied residences as well), and certain restrictions may apply.

Invest in Comfort, Savings and Sustainability

A warmer, more efficient home is within reach. By leveraging the Mass Save HEAT Loan Program, you can finance the upgrades your home needs today, with no interest, no added cost, and plenty of long-term benefits.
